SHEY :-In
1645, Delden Namgyal, son of the great bulider, Singe
Namgal, ascended the throne and bulit himself a summer
palace, 16 kilometer.

miles) from Leh in it. He installed a victory stupa,
topping it with pure gold. Situited on the top of a
hill, amidst the beauitful gardens, he , following
tather’s fott –steep ordered the edifice with numerous
images. But the king was not satisfied , Delden the
‘mannifeciant; wanted to outdo himself . Everything
approaches to leh. After a 5 years hunt for the right
sculptors he installe in 1655, the spectacular tow
–story tall image of the seated Buddha- chamba, or the
Maitreya Buddha – a copy of the image commissoned for
the Tsemo Gompa in Leh ,100 years earlier Made of
brass and copper, gilded with gold and silver and
studded with precious gems, the colossal ikon is over
12 metre (40 feet) high above base – the head is 2.5
metres (8 feet) abord . the prodigious image , like
its twin in leh, hads the same symmetry and beauit of
the featurrs and the ecstatic expression of the eyes,
though they are 100 years apart and it is difficult to
duplicate perfection. An arid land has proudved
artistiv genius teaching sublime heights.
THIKSEY MONASTERY :-Thiksey
(or Khirg-se ): this holy monastery is situated on the
top of the hill. Jomgon Tsonghkapa once declared on
the right bank of the Sindh river : « my teaching will
come to flourish. » According to this prophesy, the
lord’s own disciple, Shesrab Zangpos nephew called
Palden Sherab, founded the great monastery of Thiksey
together with the residence for lama and it comes to
flourish. There are many sacred shrines and precious
objects to be seen there.
HEMIS MONASTERY :-
Hemis is situated 48 kms from Leh on the opposite
side of the
Singee Tsangpo river (Indus). It is the
largest and most famous monastery in the Ladakh. It
Has been founded about 350 years ago by Stagsang
Reschen who was invited in Ladakh by the King Singee
Namgyal.
Day 4 : Leh to Likir (3500 m) 80km. Trek to

Leave to the west of Leh, reached Likkir, Visit
Monastery located on the top of village, After
visiting monastery easy trail leads to Sumdo, now
ascend two passes and reached the beautiful
campsite.
Likkir :-
In the village of Likkir another king
Gyalpo lachen Naroop-Gom who also ruled Ladakh in the
13th century, He built the monastery and also
personally installed six hundered lamas. During his
reign the Budhist scriptures, the holy Kangyor which
ruin in to 100 volumes were compiled for the first
time in Ladakh. The Kangyur written in Tibetan
language comprise the Vinaya, the sutra and the
Abhidharma. Than he began to collect images and artist
to paint murals and frescoes. As Alchi, Likkir has
massive clay statues of the coming Budha or
Bodhisattva in his manifold roles. Both glorious work
is of ancient devotional arts.
Scenic Gyulkpa sect (red hate) monastery complex perched
high over the hill in the valley behind the village,
providing the excellent view of the snowy mountains
and barren landscape under the deep blue sky.
Day 5: Yang-Thang to Hemischukpachan (3600 m) 6h Over
Chermentsela (3750 m)

Leave to the big village of Schukpa (Cidar).
Two hour’s climb to reach the
pass, long descend to the village. visit Gopa a top of
the village and explore
the village, a beautiful camp site.
Day 6 :- Hemischukpachan to Themisgam (3200 m) over
Meptekla (3750 m)

Trail pass through flat pasature toward the Meptekla
which take approx 2.30 hours till pass. descend to Ang
village from here one can leads towards the Shyok
valley. Next 30 minutes to Temisgam the richest
valley of Ladakhk, Appricot, Apple and nut are plenty
there, beautiful village of tea with its gompa can be
visited. camp.
Day 7 :- Themisgam to Khaltse (2995 m) over Bonbbongla
(3850 m) Lamayuru

Last day of trek, leave beautiful valley and easy
climb to Bonbonbla for 1.30 hours. Follow a long
gentle slope to Khaltse the main high way between Leh
and
Srinagar.
One hours drive for 27 kms to Lamayuru, night in guest
house.
LAMAYURU MONASTERY :-Lamayuru
monastery is situated 126 kms west of the Leh. In
ancient time, there was a lake in this place. The
Arhat Nyimagung made a prophesy saying:« May a
monastery be founded in this place» and then he
offered a votive water offering (cho-gtor) to all the
Naga (nakes spirits) who are the guardian of that
place. The grain of corn that formed part of this
offering were carried by the waves to the different
places along the cliff side by the edge of the lake
and when they had become mixed with the earth, they
sprouted forth as corn in the shape of a Swastika. In
11th century the mahasiddha Naropa came to
this place and the cave where he resided and meditated
is still to be seen today.
Day 8 - 9 :- Lamayuru to Dah-Hanu -71 km
Drive along the Indus river, afternoon reach at

DROKHPA
AREA :
Is along the Indus river.
Main villages are Dhunkar, Tirit, Skurbuchan, Hanudo,
Biama, and Dha on the road to Baltistan. Inhabitants
called Drokhpa, belong to the purest Aryan race.
They are tall, handsome and hospitable. Drokhpas are
belived to have migrated to this area via Gilgit
around thousands years ago from central Asia. They are
different with a large, beautiful eyes, sharp,equiline
nose. The men, women and children wear heavy metallic
earrings.
Most of these villages are dominated by
Muslims with colorful mosques and a very few Buddhist
houses with small Gompas.
Stroll in Biama and 2 kms. trek to Dah,
Afternoon cross the Indus to Balrase village. Leave to
Dah enroute visit several villages Skurbuchan with
apricot orchards, Achinathang and Biama famous for
pashmina, sheep breeding, handicrafts center.. night
in guest house or in family house.
Day 10 : Dah-Hanu to Leh via Alchi
and Phyang , 140 km
ALCHI MONASTERY :-Alchi
monastery, all thought there are many temples, caves
and stupas built in Ladakh by Rinchen
Zangpo,translator. Alchi choskor is the largest and
most famous of all of them, it is 69 kms far from the
Leh on west direction, south of the Village Saspol on
the opposite side of the Sengge Tsangpo (Indus). Alchi
choskor was constructed by Rinchen Zangpo, the
translator, 0approximately 990 years ago. In order to
built these temples, Rinchen Zangpo is said in various
biographic to have brought with him from Kashmir
thirty two sculptors and woodcarvers.
PHYANG MONASTERY :-Phyang
is situated 17 kms west of Leh. The site of the
monastery there form a part of one of the many
monastic estates offered to Chosje Danma Kunga from
Digung during the time of Dharmaraja Jamyang Namgyal
who had invited the former to Ladakh. A monastery
called Tashi Chozang was founded there on the blue
hill of Phyang and a monastic community introduced. It
marked the first establishment of the Digung teaching
in Ladakh, teaching whose tradition began with Skyoba
Jigten Gonbo. At present there are seventy monks in
residence. Within the monastery there are sacred
shrines and various wall paintings are to be seen
which date from the royal period. The protected deity
of the monastery is Apchi Choski Dolma. Every year,
from 2nd to the 3rd of the 6th
month, the sacred dances and the hurling of votive
offering associated with the festival of « Gang sngong
Tsedub » are held. Many people from all over Ladakh
observe the custom of take part in this festival. The
monastery was founded 446 years ago (reckoning from
1977). The successive reincarnations of Skyabje Tondan
Rinpoche act as the incumbents of the monastery.

NUBRA :
Lines up to its name as evinced by the numerous
orchards of apple and Appricots. The chief crop is
Wheat, Barley, peas, millet, buckwheat and onion.
It is reached by crossing the Khardung-la
pass which is possible for a few months in a year
(April to Sep). Many adventuress crossed it over, by
cars, buses, jeeps and cycles for the sake of
adventure.
Situated on the old caravan route, the
beautiful fertile valley was an important halting
place for the caravans. There are two main rivers
through the valley, Shyok and Nubra. Climate is much
better than Leh. 90% of the population is Buddhist and
rest is Muslim.
Day 11 : Leh to Diskit 120 km (4600 m)
.Leave to Nubra valley over Khardungla (5600 m) via
Khalsar.
Leave Leh early after breakfast over
Khardungla (5600 m) through highest road in the
world. Just below the pass there is chek post, get
your passport checked and arrive at Khalsar. Continue
to Diskit, visit monastery, Leave to Hunder, 6 kms
walk on the sand of Shyok river, beautiful village is
worth to visit drive back to Diskit night guest house.
Day 12
: Diskit to Panamik (3232 m) 85 km, Back to Sumour
.
Panamik , a large settlement at the bank of the Nubra
,enjoy hot sulpher spring waterwhere in olden time
Caravan,s of silk route use to take halt .
Afternoon visit the 250 years old Samour gompa , O/N
in camp
Day 13 : Samour to Leh .120
